About PublicAffordableHousing.com
Finding affordable housing in the United States means navigating thousands of separate housing authorities, each with its own waiting list, rules, and paperwork, plus income limits and rent standards that change every year and differ county by county. Official information exists, but it is scattered across government databases that were never designed for the people who need them most.
PublicAffordableHousing.com puts it in one place, in plain English, for free.

Where the data comes from
Our figures come from official public sources: HUD's Fair Market Rents, Income Limits, Picture of Subsidized Households, and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit databases (all published at huduser.gov), the National Low Income Housing Coalition's Out of Reach report, and housing authorities' own published information. Waiting-list information is refreshed weekly; HUD datasets are refreshed when HUD publishes new annual figures. Every data page cites its source.
Housing data changes constantly, and no directory is perfect. Waiting lists open and close, offices move, and limits update. Always confirm details with the housing authority or property before making decisions, and tell us if you spot something out of date.
What we are not
We are an independent informational website. We are not affiliated with HUD, any housing authority, or any government agency, and we cannot accept, process, or influence housing applications.
Applying for housing assistance is always free. Housing authorities never charge application fees for Section 8 or public housing. Anyone who asks you to pay to apply is running a scam.
How the site is funded
